Burroughs Fundraising Events
We are dedicated to providing our programs at a cost our families can afford. To do that we raise funds through events, grants and direct mail pieces. We have successful events each year including, “Freezin’ for a Reason” and “Dinner with Friends.” You can learn more about each event below.
Freezin’ for a Reason began in 2008. In 2010 we succeeded in raising over $52,000 in less than a minute – we’re serious. Over 100 plungers raised funds for Burroughs by jumping into Long Island Sound in 33 degree weather. The event took place Saturday, March 27th 2010 at Jennings Beach in Fairfield. Registration and the Post Plunge Party was held at the Gaelic American Club down the street from the beach. Want more information for 2011? Running for Burroughs: Are you a runner interested in racing for a cause! Use an online giving page to raise money for Burroughs Community Center while doing what you love. Go to www.Firstgiving.com/Burroughs to sign up. Questions? Contact Laura@BurroughsCC.org.
Dinner with Friends began in 2004. The idea of this ongoing 'friendraiser' is simple: close volunteers and supporters of the Center will open their homes for a dinner party and invite their friends, family and co-workers to make a contribution to the Center in exchange for a fabulous homemade meal. For more information on how you can become a host, please contact Laura@BurroughsCC.org. Not a fan of the dinner party idea? How about hosting a 'BBQ for Burroughs,' 'Cocktails for a Cause,' 'Massage or Spa Night,' etc. We have many ideas to share for interested hosts!
Burroughs Cornhole Tournament began in 2009. Our upcoming tournament will take place on Saturday May 22, 2010 at Burroughs Community Center. First toss is at 11:30am. Register Here. We'll supply the burgers, you supply the coolers and beverages. Questions, email Laura@BurroughsCC.org .
The Black Rock Holiday Sweater Restaurant Roam: On December 5th, 2009, 165 roamers traveled around Fairfield Avenue from 12-6:30pm. Visiting 11 establishments, they were able to enjoy drinks & complementary food brought to them by the restaurants.
Prizes were given to the most outlandish holiday sweater outfits. The Black Rock establishments included: Black Rock Tavern, Lady Luck, Taco Loco, Viale Ristorante, Café Tavolini, The Field, Ash Creek Saloon, Matty’s Corner, Ray Kelly’s Pub & Frankie’s Sports Lounge. Thank you to all of the Restaurants, Volunteers & Roamers! Contact Laura@BurroughsCC.org on how to get involved next year.
